Helga Rogers, a long-time member of The Potter’s Studio, became interested in pottery while studying fine art at the Ontario College of Art.
Later, as a volunteer on a pottery program for children, her kiln misfired, causing a deadline challenge. The Potter’s Studio was able to help out and she subsequently joined.
Pottery for Helga has a feeling of fine art. Design turns her on -- she makes cuts to create patterns in the surface of her pots and uses underglaze decoration to complete the designs. She sees pots, not from the point of view of function, but from the perspective of art.
