Allan Bates

Allan Bates first discovered pottery in high school and while pursuing his Fine Arts and Graphic Design degree from Central Technical School, he chose to continue pursuing clay design.  During his education, Allan was fortunate to study under two great artists: Robin Hopper, an internationally known potter, teacher, author, garden designer and arts activist, and; Roger Kerslake, a graduate of Fine Art and Pottery in England who pursued his teaching career in England and here in Canada.

In 2007, after a very successful career in graphic design, Allan chose to revisit his passion for pottery and since then has been creating ceramics.  He prefers to build his art from scratch – known as slab pottery – that is reflected in the uniqueness of each and every piece.

The following pieces are examples of Allan's art and are not for sale online.
